If you want a perspective on what our society is now facing in 2017, it helps to take a look back at 1917, when the United States entered World War I and took on the role of a leading global power.   Modern-day concerns about our tense border relations with Mexico, the targeting of ethnic groups in the interests of national security, and the struggle over whether “America First” should be America’s motto, are by no means new in our national experience.  Learning about the decisions made a century ago, and the often tragic consequences that followed, can enrich our conversation about how we are approaching these issues in our own time.  Join us for a discussion about war and peace, “over here” and “over there,” then and now.

Dr. Durahn Taylor teaches “The American Experience: Diversity, Immigration, Ethnicity, and Race,”  “The Culture and History of Black America,” and “The American Presidency, 1900-Present” on the Pleasantville Campus.
